Dear readers,

I’m thrilled to share some exciting news: SPH Media, Singapore’s largest news publisher, has announced its plans to acquire Tech in Asia (TIA)!

Here’s why this deal is a fantastic move for TIA:

  1. Scaling our mission: Our mission to serve the tech and startup community in Asia will only grow stronger with the support of SPH Media’s extensive network and resources. We’re committed to continuing our high-quality content and events, aligning perfectly with SPH Media’s goals to build the leading business title in Asia Pacific.
  2. Team fit: The entire TIA team is valued, from newsroom and events to tech. SPH Media recognizes and appreciates our entire skill set and what we can offer, and part of the reason for this deal is that they want us to bring our capabilities to their organization. It’s heartening to be accepted as a whole team and feel appreciation for the business model we have built between our newsroom, events, and Studios work.
  3. Independence preserved: TIA will remain independent, maintaining our unique culture, processes, and HR policies. So far, our conversations with SPH Media are centered around mutual learning and sensible changes.
  4. People: The people I have worked with at SPH Media have been capable and kind collaborators. The M&A process was long and tough. At those pivotal moments, I spoke my mind and the open communication was welcomed, resulting in radical candor on both sides. It’s a good litmus test of what’s to come.
  5. Certainty and liquidity: Despite the roller coaster we all have been through over the last few years, I remain bullish on tech. Joining forces with SPH Media provides Tech in Asia with more stability and resources as well as an environment to thrive. Additionally, this deal offers liquidity for our shareholders, some who have patiently fought alongside us for over a decade. It’ll reward past and present employees who’ve built Tech in Asia to what it is today.
